Bennetts of Irongate

Bennetts of Irongate is a historical and well established department store located in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter in Derby. Starting life in 1734 as an Ironmongers, Bennetts has since developed its range of products and services to become one of the City's most prestigious department stores. Bennett's range of quality products extends across departments including cookshop, fashion accessories, china & glass, casual clothing, dining, interiors, stationery, gardening, hardware, bathroom accessories, gifts, soft toys and nursery. Bennetts also has a coffee shop and brasserie.

"The CSY Vector EPOS system has been one of the biggest investments that Bennetts has made for several years. We decided to invest in an EPOS system as we felt that the progress of the business would have been stifled had we not done so. With the help of the knowledgeable CSY team, the installation of the system was quick and straightforward. The EPOS equipment is user friendly, and the points-of-sale are quick and easy to use.

Implementing the Vector EPOS system has allowed us to change many of the time consuming and outdated manual systems that we employed. We recognised that it was important to learn how to use the system effectively so we took full advantage of the training provided by CSY both in our store and at CSY's training facility.

Bennetts were moving from a traditional till environment so it was a significant effort to gather all the barcode information and get it loaded into the system. This was helped by the import facilities in Vector that allowed us to receive lists from our suppliers straight into the system.

We have now been using Vector EPOS for 18 months and we have 96% of our stock loaded into the system. In our recent stocktake we used the handheld terminals to count 166,000 stock lines.

Vector provides us with many benefits including a wide range of management information from the reporting facilities. We can look at virtually anything we need to including sales and profitability by department or supplier. We have been able to identify losses from shoplifting more promptly and take the necessary action to reduce it.

The time and efficiency savings that we have been able to make now means that we are able to run the business with fewer points-of-sale and we have significantly reduced staffing costs.

Bennetts have already recovered the cost of our initial investment through improvements in efficiency and cost reductions and are now reaping the benefits of improved profitability."
