Bath Abbey EPOS Case Study
“Bath Abbey is an active Christian church situated at the heart of the city. Founded in 1499, it stands on the site of an earlier Norman Cathedral and the original Abbey Church built in the 8th century. The Abbey features a shop for visitors that stocks a large range of Bibles, Christian books, guide books, postcards, greetings cards, CDs, icons, jewellery and gifts.
We spent 18 months looking for an EPOS system and Vector was the only one which would meet all our requirements. A specific need was to be able to show colour photos, on the till screen, of products which were too small for barcode labels.
Ease of use was also high up the list on our selection criteria. We have a number of elderly volunteers, some of whom were hesitant beforehand, who are delighted with the new Vector system. We have found that it is very easy to train volunteers who have little or no experience with tills or computers.
It is important that the shop is kept well-stocked. We have a steady stream of visitors throughout the year and it is important that the items they want are available. The use of Vector has made re-ordering items much simpler.
Stock-taking is always one of those things that is going to take some time as each item has to be recorded with its quantity. Using the Vector handheld terminals means that this is no longer a nightmare.
All profits from the shop go towards the ministry and maintenance of the Abbey so it is important that we can produce accurate reports. The reports within Vector can be configured to meet our exact requirements. The auditors were amazed at the speed with which we can now produce statistics and information.”
